I think the search for the best ingredients to naturally fortify our immunity came even before Ask Elizabeth was created. So I began my journey combining what I already knew with some new things along the way.
Since I can remember, when I was sick, my mum would boil lemons, as it great source of Vitamin C and Antioxidants, which for those of you who do not know, helps to support immunity. We would have it with honey, which also is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants responsibility helps mop up free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, and other incredible health benefits for mind, and body.
Lemon Myrtle however is even more fortified that your regular and perhaps home grown lemons. Otherwise known as the queen of all lemon herbs, is created from leaves. Which has been found to have anti fungal and anti bacterial properties. Making it unbelievably beneficial for the treatment of symptoms association with the common for when you get sick - sore throat, sinus infection, bronchitis, just to name a few things. It has a high concentration level of Vitamin C making it the perfect instalment to boost your immunity.
Then I did some deep diving into why certain people live longer than others. Specifically what are they eating/consuming to allow this to happen. But more importantly, to live a long and healthy life. Spice was one of the things that kept coming up. Especially; turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and cayenne pepper. Which have one of the highest food grade antioxidants values on the market, which the benefits of containing are mentioned above.
But aside from this, they are also anti inflammatory. What does this mean? Simply, it helps with managing the inflammation in our bodies to prevent chronic inflammation which can cause conditions like heart disease, alzheimers and cancer. Meaning it may also act as an anti-cancer agent.
Inflammation is known factor of getting a common cold as is congestion which cayenne pepper is known to aid. Whilst cinnamon has the additional benefit of reducing blood sugar levels. Whilst Ginger’s added antimicrobial benefits preventing the reproduction of virus’ completely as well as ginger and cinnamon alike having anti fungal properties.
